Where Starbucks Went Wrong – Seeking Alpha

Posted on August 18, 2008. Filed under: Business, Coffee, Management, Marketing, Starbucks |

Someone is on the same page as me.  This captures, in a nutshell, the real problem at Starbucks. It has made a commodity out of itself. Starbucks now reminds me of the game operator you played as a kid, you start with a message it gets whispered from ear to ear, and at the end [...]

Starbucks coffee is too expensive, new survey says

Posted on August 13, 2008. Filed under: Business, Coffee, Management, Marketing, Starbucks, media |

Oh boy.  73% think Starbucks is overpriced.  How did they ask the question?  I’d like to see the questionnaire.  They only asked about coffee prices as far as I can tell.  Well I think the coffee is not overpriced (for NYC anyhow), but I think $5 is too much to pay free Internet.
I was a [...]

Getting ‘Free’ Wi-Fi At Starbucks — Courant.com

Posted on July 21, 2008. Filed under: Business, Coffee, Starbucks |

Only 5 easy steps to get ‘Free’ Internet!   Oh, yeah and only 2 hours a day, you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.  Starbucks has a knack to make simple things ridiculously  complex.

Starbucks Restores Bold Blend, Yielding to Its Customers – WSJ.com

Posted on June 20, 2008. Filed under: Business, Coffee, Management, Marketing, Starbucks |

Starbucks’ not free “Free” Wi-Fi is a good plan?  According to several news reports first day demand overwhelmed the system.  Could I have been wrong?  No.  I still say this scheme is a big stinker.  It turns out they even limit what you can do with your not free “free” access.
Activities not allowed:

Video [...]

AT&T offers free Wi-Fi at Starbucks | Tech news blog – CNET News.com

Posted on June 4, 2008. Filed under: Business, Coffee, Management, Marketing, Odd, Starbucks, Technology, media |

Free internet with a catch.  Starbucks still doesn’t get it.  My guess is that it will take less then six months for Starbucks’ latest overly complicated Wi-Fi scheme to fail.  Is anyone counting how plans for internet access have failed so far?  It’s almost amusing to see how many bazaar and unwieldy plans Starbucks can [...]

Starbucks exits music biz, Pikes Place roast is getting bad press, and I went to Seattle

Posted on April 26, 2008. Filed under: Business, Coffee, Marketing, Starbucks |

What did I say?  Finally someone is using the old noggin at Starbucks, well sort of.
After just one year, Starbucks pulls back from music label – Los Angeles Business from bizjournals:
I agree with this article.  I had the Pikes Place Roast and I think it’s very much like New Coke.  In fact, [...]
